Websters defines moxie as an abundance of energy, pep, courage, determination and know-how.
In 1994, I had the pleasure of dating someone who was to have a profound influence on my life. The relationship was not long lived, but it was intense. Scott and I stayed in contact regularly over the next 17 years, mostly because of his tenacity in trying to resume the relationship! At the end of May, 2011, his dogged determination still intact, he suggested playfully that I had too much moxie to allow myself to go back to an ex-boyfriend. Still, he wanted to write me a letter to let me know how much I meant to him. Sadly, Scott was killed recently in a motorcycle accident 2 days later, the letter unwritten.
Moxie was such a well-chosen word to describe me. It represents many qualities I have, but don’t claim credit for. Scott’s choice of words reminded me of how often the world sees strength in someone who, in themselves, sees a certain frailty.
I have been strangely inspired since losing Scott. I have gotten a tattoo (yes, finally, at 47!), I have been more focused on fostering relationships with good people My thirst for knowledge and creativity has been elevated.
This blog is dedicated to Scott and the many, many other people in my life who have inspired me to be a better person through the simplicity of word and deed..
